E rere raa te matangi…
The Games are one of the biggest biennial events held by Waikato-Tainui. Thousands of people from Waikato attend the games to enjoy a healthy weekend of fun in a smoke-free and an alcohol-free environment.
Most sporting codes are played on Saturday and Sunday with the exception of Surfing which is held on October 27/28 and Indoor Bowls/Chess which will be held at Turangawaewae Marae on Friday November 9 – this is to ensure there is enough room for these sports and so that everyone can be at Hopuhopu during the main days.
The event has in total 13 sports that will be played and some new ones have been added (Tennis/Waka Ama/Ki-o-rahi will be back at the next Games but will not be played in 2018).
There will be hot kai available for purchase, activities galore for our tamariki to enjoy (you will have to supervise them of course 😉), there is something for any one of the whaanau.
This is shaping up to be one of the best events ever, so if you’re keen to play get in touch with your marae coordinators and register your marae as soon as you can!
